Question:

Flower Girl alternatives?

I wasn't going to have a flower girl but I decided to. Well I actually asked a girl a few months ago and then totally forgot until a few weeks ago, I've now come to realize I don't have a basket for her to use or any flowers to throw! What are some cute/fun alternatives to this?

  1. A bouquet of flowers in a color that matches the bridesmaids. She doesn't have to throw flowers.

  2. 12 is a bit old for a flower girl. Call her a junior bridesmaid instead. (Flowergirls used to to symbolize fertility. We don't like to associate 12-year olds with fertility anymore; that's too close to teen pregnancy.)

As a junior bridesmaid, she'd carry a smaller bridemaid bouquet.

If you want something totally different, how about a ribbon wand she can wave as she goes down the aisle? It's mesmerizing and she can use the throwing motion to wave the ribbon. Unlike bubbles, it won't stain any fabrics or cause accidents when the solution ends up on the floor..

  3. You don't have to have her throw anything.  She simply can just walk down the aisle and look adorable. After all, isn't that the point of the flower girl.  No one really cares if she throws anything, they just care that she's go freaking cute.

If you still want an alternative, what if she blows bubbles?  Also, what about confetti?

  4. bubbles, heart-shaped shiny confetti, if it is outside she can throw bird seed.

  5. I agree, 12 is way to old for a "flower girl".

I was going to say have her carry a teddy bear ...but....she's 12.

make her jr bridesmaid and don't have a flower girl.

it might be good for her self esteem actually if you mention something like "so I was thinking and you're too adult now to be a flower girl so i'd like it if you stood WITH me that day as a jr bridesmaid!"

    no?

  6. You can have two bouquets you can have one at the beginning of the ceremony and at the end, because you are married you can have a different one and that one , she can carry and hand it to you

  7. I wasn't allowed to have our flower girl throw petals at our ceremony, so I made her a pomander. It was a styrofoam ball that I stuck flowers into  and attached a ribbon to it so she could carry it. It was really pretty and might be better for an older flower girl than carrying a basket.

    Good luck and congratulations.

  8. I got married recently I got my flowers from wholesalers I did not per say order flowers for the flowergirl I ordered a few bunches for the bridesmaids and from that a small posy of flowers was made up for the flowergirl. We made our own floral arrangements which was cost effective and easy basically you need sticky tape, ribbon and scissors to cut flowers to desired size.  My flowergirl also wore a white floral halo  I was going to use real flowers but thought that would be to messy so they were artifical flowers. It only cost $10 and was so cute.  We had bubbles for the kids to use after the ceremony as confetti.  I think 12 yrs old is a bit too old to be blowing bubbles down the aisle.

  9. What about bubbles??

  10. Well when i was young i really wanted to be a flower girl but of course i got something else

    haha

instead of throwing flowers, i walked down the aisle and blew bubbles, everyone thought it was a cute idea and it worked out nice
