  1. You can start taking lessons at any age where an instructor is willing to teach you, however you have to be 16 to solo and you need a valid Class III medical certificate.

You can receive a private license at age 18.  I paid about 3 thousand dollars to learn in 1973, but it costs a lot more than that now.

I'd try to set aside at least ten thousand.

  2. Warren is wrong. You get your private @ age 17, not 18. @ 18 you get your commercial certificate. There is no minumum age. You can begin as early as seven just as long as your feet can touch the pedals. Like mentioned, 15.5 is a good time to start because you'll be able to solo as soon as you finish your lessons which can take anywhere from 6 months to a year. Expect to pay around $70-$200 per flying lesson depending on which aircraft type you fly. To get your private pilot it will cost you a total of around $7,000 - $15,000. This can be quite costly so consider student loans or ask the school if you can wash their aircraft in exchange for lessons. Two of my friends do this.

  3. Playstation. No age limit, max cost $100.

  4. Way to go Zach check your email!

I think Yahoo!answers should change the name to Yahoo!guesses!

all of the other answers except Zachs) are basing their answer on ignorance.and are either entirely or partly incorrect.

I was going to suggest you use the search feature, this question is ask several time a day and there are hundreds of answers to the same question. However, the incorrect answers you have received induced me to post the correct info.

For airplanes, you can take lessons at any age.(that your parents/guardian and flight instructor allows.) to solo(part of your training before you can be come a certificated pilot) you have to be 16 and posses at least a third class medical. 17 before you can be eligible for the Private pilot.certificate (aka license)

18 to become a Commercial Pilot, 23 to become a Airline Transport Pilot (ATP)

Cost...depends alot on where you are, I would budget at $5,000-$7,000

  5. The FAA has some great information on how to choose a school and what to look for when choosing a school. Since they are the ones who will certify you, I think they would be the best place to start. (PS - Even if you are not in the US, there is a lot of good information here.)

Once you've got that figured out, there is a whole heap more of information available through their web site starting with this stuff: http://www.faa.gov/pilots/training/

  6. My uncle is a pilot teacher and he said that about 9000 dollars. I think the age is like 18.

  7. You can reasonably start taking lessons at age 15.5; you have to be 16 to get a license.  Which will take about 60 hours of flying time, around 40 of which will be with an instructor.  Expect to pay around $7,000.
