Is there supposed to be a groom's response? Something like, "Thanks for coming, we're so happy that you're all here with us on such a special day."

  1. The groom typically doesn't give a public speech at the reception....the best man is the one who thanks everyone for coming.

After the Best Man's speech, it's party time, girlie!

  2. The best man is supposed to do all of that.

The trend of the groom making a toast is relatively new and is not a tradition.  The bride and groom are supposed to be honored by the guests so they should remain seated and graciously accept the accolades of their family and friends.

  3. After the toasts--we had both the father's do toasts at the rehearsal and at the wedding the Best Man and MOH did toasts.  After both of them, my husband took the mike and did a little Thank you both for the great toast and thank you all for coming.  Just a really short lil thanks.  Nothing big.  And rather more along the lines of Enjoy the party than Thank you all for coming b/c that sorta sounds like Goodbye and we did the toasts early on in the evening.

I didn't say anything.  I am terrified of public speaking.  I was a communication major and had to do it in every class then I got a job where I do it a lot.  I never got over my fear.  So I told my groom I wasn't doing it at all.  I held his arm and smiled.

  4. Yes, the groom makes a reply to the toast. Not in the form you said, though - that's for your thank yous.
