Question:

Food Menu?

Im in the process of creating a menu for a seafood restaurant.

What are your thoughts about having numbers by the item and having customers order by telling the waiter the number, instead of their actual order.

This is a sit down type of restaurant, but was wondering if the number idea was ok to use?

Any thoughts or ideas would be a great help.

Thanks

  1. i think this is an interesting idea.and the ordering by number idea very is clever.=)

  2. I think that there are really only two reasons to use ordering by number:

    1.  you want a very high turn over rate

    2.  your clientel is very diverse and many of them do not speak the same language that your menu is printed in

There are several issues that you must address if you do this:

    1.  your restaurant will appear to be lower class than other restaurants

    2.  your wait staff will need to be able to translate from the names to the numbers for the chef

    3.  you'll still need to address special orders - unless you don't allow special orders

  3. i think that is a great idea i mean this way u prevent someone from being embarrassed by the idea of miss pronouncing something this way they can just say 22 or 5 or something of that nature brilliant and it gives the restaurant an laid back feeling

  4. I think this is fine if it is a very casual restaurant.  For a more sophisticated seafood restaurant, I think ordering "by number" is not appropriate.
