Question:

Food Stamps? Urgent!?

by  |  earlier

I live in California and I'm living with my friend and his family for free. I'm planning on applying for food stamps for myself. And the food stamp application asks for household information. Do I have to enclose their information on the application as well or just information on myself?

Please state whether you are have had or currently have food stamps along with your answer.

Thanks!

  1. Just write their names and address, if they ask for their income tell them you don't know. The worst that could happen is that they give you another appointment.

I never had food stamps, but would apply for them in a heart beat if I ever had the opportunity.

  2. DONOT write down that you prepare meals with them as you are an independent adult over the age of 18 and if you are childless, the only way that you can qualify for foodstamps is if you are an independent adult and need temporary assistance to maintain your independence----basically assistance for adults without children is viewed as a leg up for someone in hard times. If you put down the names and info of your friend's family, this would cause the system to view those other occupants in the home as a family unit with you and  as such they would be viewed as partially responsible for your upkeep . This would not only be an inconvience for you (and possibly cause you to be denied based upon their income) but also be an imposition towards the family that you are staying with ---because the state would view them as your providers in concept and looking at their income(if they are not low income themselves) ---- deny you. This would then make your friend's family your providers  in reality because you would have nothing ------ which I'm sure while they are hospitable they aren't interested in acquiring any new grown(emphasis on grown) children.   The reason why the state asks you to name who is in your household  is to root out certain living situations where for whatever reason non-biological kinship ties have been built ---for instance, a g*y couple or some other scenario where all parties share in the support of the household AND intend to continue doing so.  You on the other hand intend to become self supporting(or at least that should be your goal according to the state) therefore you should be preparing your own meals (even if that ends up meaning that you contribute a certain share of the grocery cost that would equal what you eat) and you should be providing your own housing(or at least paying some form of rent to the homeowner)--------List yourself only and indicate that you pay rent and prepare your meals separately.  BUT have a letter from the homeowner or person who is mainly on the lease stating that you are renting a room from them with the dollar amount per month.

  3. Why don't you get a job instead?? Or maybe sell your computer. The government does not owe you a living.

  4. I am in California.

You have to include them on the application just so they know who lives with you (in case there are any felons), but their income is not important as long as you are making your own food separate from theirs.

P.S. Don't listen to what ignorant people say.

  5. I dont think you will get much maybe 40 or 50 a month but just be honest on the app.

  6. Well if you live with them , they will want to know everything about them to see if they can determine if you are possible to support from them, sad isn't it, just say you pay rent and cook separate meals for diet reasons , and you will be just fine.

  7. As above state on the application you are paying rent therefore you are the only one living in the household.  I understand your situation so I won't give you the go get a job speach but for the record please do get a job a.s.a.p.  The government does not pay for your food we the people do aka me and everyone who pays taxes.
