what are all the postions in football? and what do they do?

The Offensive Unit

Quarterback (QB) throws

Running Backs (RB): Halfback (HB) runs the ball and can block for quarterback,

Fullback (FB) blocks for half back, protects quarterback

Wide Receiver (WR), run routs to catch the ball past the line of scrimmage

Tight End (TE) , can block on the line but also recive throws

Offensive Linemen (OL): Center, hikes the ball to the qb (C), Guards (G) and Tackles (OT)

The Defensive Unit

Defensive Linemen (DL), Tackles (DT) and Ends (DE)- rushes the qb

Linebackers (LB) can rush qb, but also drop into coverage

Defensive Backs (DB), guard the wide recievers

: Safeties (S) and usually help in zone coverage, but can also help in man to man

Special Teams

Place Kicker (PK)- kicks the kickoff, and the extra point(pat)

Punter (P)- punts the ball after fourth down

Holder (H)- holds the ball in place for the place kicker

Kick Returned (KR) recievs the punt and runs
