Question

At night I often experience a flash of light across my field of vision, followed by a low humming noise. My hom is on the site of an older house where a dentist and his wife used to live. I am delaing with the presence of a spirit?

This is something that many face. Perhaps there is a solution for what is occurring then there can be a possibility of being visited by paranormal activity. Maybe there are cars that pass by your driveway and the lights shine through your window. The humming noise can be you sense of hearing. Sometimes when I make a fast reaction, I can hear this harsh screech in my ear and at times a loud humming noise. Maybe you should visit your doctor to maybe check your ears because I was facing that same problem a few years ago. But who knows, there is always a possibility of experiencing paranormal activity.

There simply is not enough information to determine an adequate answer to your question.

First, you have to rule out all normal explanations like vision problems and car headlights (as already mentioned).

The humming noise would suggest to me that a hearing evaluation would also be in order (to rule out that possibility) and another person should be present to see if they also hear the noise. Any audio recording device could be used in an attempt to record the sound and provide evidence that it is external (not in your ear).

I would keep a notebook and/or tape recorder by wherever this occurs and write down or make an audio note of each experience in as much detail as possible (are your eyes open or closed?, etc.) for at least 30 days.

After you have done all of the above if you still do not have an answer the information you gathered will be valuable to any investigative team that comes in or any further investigation you decide to conduct yourself.

Depending on where you are in your home, and the ways your windows face, it could be reflections coming from cars passing by.  The humming could be any number of things from electrical to plumbing, etc.  

Light flases could be a sign of a paranormal presence in some cases, but if it's only happening at night, I'd try to rule out any external possibilities before you decide that it's a spirit or other paranormal presence.

You used the word "often." If you experience the same occurrence repetitively then it is more that likely not paranormal.

As someone with a bit knowledge on the subject, I say no, it is not paranormal. Reflections for the light, especially if it is in the same place. Pressure in pipes, under the floor or in the walls for the humming.

You don:t have to worry about ghosts.You are proberly been abducted by aliens.The flash is when thealiens put you back in your house.

It's possible that you're lying down too fast and the humming is a result of that.

I'd have an Ophthalmologist check out that flash of light.It's a symptom of some pretty serious eye problems.After that check out the less likely spirit infestation.The hum may be the ghost of the dentists drill.
