i've just a bought a t plate mondeo ghia auto. It's my first auto and it's been driving fine, until i pulled it and then went to reverse , went to move and nothing happened. I realised the handbrake was still up, and thought that was why, so i released it but still backwards movement. Turned the car off, into park, and then started it again. Still nothing. So i checked forward (d) still worked and it did, and then reverse worked and no issues for the last day or so. Any ideas what happened? Did i do anything wrong? Cheers. Rich

  1. When you first start the engine run throughthe gears a couple of times (with the brake on) you should be fine, if anymore problems take it back.

  2. You did everything right.  I once had an automatic that got stuck in reverse, the only problem is you can't even jump start your car. I'm afraid its the garage for your car.

  3. Some Automatics are worked by a cable to change gear. Perhaps the cable (if you have one) needs adjusting or replacing).
