Former Bridesmaids... best/worst BM gift?

Just wondering,

My FSIL has been a BM seven times (#8 coming up). I've never been a BM, so I wouldn't know... my question is:

What has been the best BM gift that you have received?

What has been the worst and why?

Thank you!

  1. Best - tasteful jewelry that we wore at the ceremony, and that I still wear (it was a silver necklace with a small diamond pendant)

Worst - cheap plastic pearl earrings when I didn't have pierced ears

Bath products are fine but SO overdone

  2. i never got anything but we gave 5 oz flasks all different to meet the girls tastes and filled them with their favorite booze for between the ceremony and reception.

  3. I was a bridesmaid only once (pressure from family) and got both a best and a worst.   The best gift was a lovely strand of pearls. I have worn these to all sorts of occasions, including work.  I'm still using them, albeit less frequently, and her marriage ended more than 10 years ago.

The worst gift was a pair of earrings that matched the necklace.  She knew I hadn't worn earrings in years because of metal allergy problems.  Eventually, I had them converted into a ring.

  4. The best gift I received was flip flops.  They were to wear to the reception, which was wonderful.. and they were cute enough to wear again.

I really don't like getting jewelery because you pretty much wear it for that day and then never again...

  5. I have never been a BM before, but a friend of mine got her BM's bathrobes with Bridesmaid and Maid of Honour embroidered on the back and they were soooo nice.  everyone loved them and wore them while getting ready for the wedding so they didnt have to mess their hair and makeup by pulling on and off a shirt.  and they were good quality thick terrycloth robes.  I thought they were cute.  the worst gift I think is jewellery for the wedding.  usually its fake and evertually turns your neck green not to mention its not usually practicle to wear again.  I only have a MOH and I got her a pewter jewellery box with her name and Maid of Honour engraved on it with a matching peweter rose with a heart tag engraved with the date.  she loved it because it was a keep sake she could have forever and it looked nice in her bedroom.  I think the best adn worst gift is really dependent on the person because everyone likes different things.  I think that a bride who truely loves and cares about the people in her wedding will know what kind of thing they will like.  the gifts dont need to be the same for everyone.

  6. Best = Gift Card to my favorite restaurant inside of a little purse to use the day of the wedding

Worst = Homemade bracelet made by the bride that looked like  something a 5 year old did and cost about 10 cents. After spending over $2,500 to be in the wedding on dress, shoes, hair, hotel, alterations, shower, make-up, gift et. I was really hurt.

  7. The best was a gift card to go shopping. I actually got stuff I could use as opposed to the worst (not really bad just pointless) monogrammed compacted mirror. It was a nice thought but I have never used it.

  8. The best was a victoria's secret giftcard, worst was an engraved lipstick case (i don't even wear lipstick). I think as long as the gift is useful, it will be enjoyed. Sometimes people give gifts that are pretty, but nobody knows what to do with them after the wedding. I know that my lipstick case is just collecting dust now.

  9. Haven't gotten a good one...but the worst would have to be anything with the bride and grooms initials/wedding date engraved on it.  Thanks, but I already have a dress I'll never wear again to remember it by.

I do not wear costume jewelry so that is another crappy gift in my opinion.

We gave classic pearl stud earrings.  I wanted simple and classic, even our flower girls got pearls.

  10. worst was a tote bag with my initials and a manicure set.  now maybe that would be ok, except the girl was a horrible, horrible, horrible bridezilla and we put up with a LOT from her.  she had us spend a lot on her demands and spent a fortune on other things and then a little gift that she didn't even hand to us.  she just had them sitting out when we got to the wedding and we were supposed to just find ours. never  a SINGLE thank you.  it was also very impersonal and we'd been friends for over 15 years.

i like jewelry idea... i know people say it's too common, but i like it :)  i also like the "basket" idea of a bunch of little things so you can personalize it a bit.

and say thank you!  that's what we really want :)

  11. Gift...? I was supposed to get a gift????

  12. The best was a necklace, one which I can wear again. I have been in 3 weddings and gotten a necklace each time.

The worst would probably be a bridesmaid dress that was bought for me for 1 of those weddings. It is pretty, but has a slight train, so I have nowhere to wear it.

  13. a Victoria secret gift card was the best...but who doesnt like those?!!?!? the worst was jewerly that matched my BM dress that i will never wear again.

  14. My sister was given earrings to wear the day of the wedding.  Her ears are not pierced.

  15. Best was a bracelet and clutch handbag with earrings for the wedding..

    worst was nothing at all!

  16. Was only a maid once (MOH) for my sister almost 30 years ago.....she gave me a beautiful pendant-a larged dark green oval jade in a yellow gold rope setting...still have it, of course......& I wear it occasionally too.

  17. The best was when I was a MOh in my best friend's wedding
