Question:

Fort Leonard Wood During Fall?

My boyfriend leaves tomorrow for Basic and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He is suppose to return for two weeks in December for Christmas and then come back for good around Mid-January. So, he will be there for the end of summer, during fall, and beginning of winter.

Has anyone else ever gone to this fort for basic, during the same time of year? I know the weather there changes often and I wanted to know how the day-to-day training is during these seasons? Easier because of the cold? Harder? Details are great. Thanks!

  1. I live a couple of hours away. Those of us who have lived in the Midwest our whole lives, have a saying that goes, "if you don't like the weather, stick around, it will change in a few minutes." Fall around here is typically mild, it can be cold in the mornings, with frost and quite nice by afternoon, in the 50's or higher. Winter is hit or miss, it has been pretty mild the last couple of years, but we have been know to have large snowfalls, not that terribly often, and we can have ice storms as well.  I was near the area of Ft LW last winter and it was sunny and pleasant while 2 hours to the east they were having a 10 inch blizzard at my home.  There is no such thing as consistent weather in the good ol Midwest.

    Good luck to him.

  2. flw is one of the most extreme weather changing places i have been. during the winter, it seemed i could not wear enough clothing or gear to keep me warm. it's so miserably cold i couldn't stand it.it did not matter where i was, or what i was doing, you're just cold...period.lol.the training is easy. pretty much, if you go, you will pass.

  3. My fiances brother just graduated last week from basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  Apparently the weather changes every two minutes. lol.  When we arrived it was raining and humid and when we got out of the graduation it was sunny and hot.  Now that its starting to get cooler the drill sergeants told us that its going to be alot more tollerable.  Its ridiculously hot in the summer and ridiculously cold in the winter.  The possibility of snow will be an issue when they are doing their training but the people that graduated in the summer wont have that experience under their belt so that might be better for him.  And its good that he gets to stay there for basic training and AIT because my fiances brother had to take a 24 hour bus ride to San Antonio Texas.  I hope he enjoys it and hopefully you'll get to see him graduate in 9 weeks!!!
