I was there today/yesterday to watch England's 2 best players almost single-handedly beat South Africa in the 1st ODI.

Pietersen smashed 90* and took 2 wickets (Yes you read it correctly) to earn the Man Of The Match award.

BUT i was more impressed with Andrew Flintoff, he was awesome with the bat (he hit 78 from 70 balls) and he bowled with real pace (he took 2 wickets)

My Question(s) is

Who is more entertaining to watch when at his best?

Andrew Flintoff or Kevin Pietersen

Who contributes more to the team?

Andrew Flintoff or Kevin Pietersen

  1. Based on the past records, I would pick KP

Firstly he has this aura which puts opponents off and can (and has) decimated bowling attacks. Freddie is a great player but his injuries have not helped, and sadly he seemed to have lost confidence in his batting (why else would he come so low in the test matches, even after the wicketkeeper).

Besides, KP is doing well even after becoming the skipper, which according to me is a very big contribution looking at how most players seem to flounder.

Finally, Freddie can offer more to his team if he plays to potential coz he is a true all rounder - can bat, bowl and field exceptionally well. BUT KP has performed closer to his potential than Freddie in the last 1 year.

    In the last 2 years

KP played 28 tests and scored 2578 runs at 52.61

Freddie played just 8 tests in which he scored 367 runs at 28.23  and took 20 wickets at 40.45

  2. So who is giving TDs to all who say Flintoff? What a bunch of sore losers are on this site, get a grip, it's not like we are selectors or anything!

    For the record, Flintoff.

  3. Flintoff obviously. He is from Lancashire after all!

Andrew Flintoff ismore entertianing to watch as he is more unpredictable than Pietersen. Whenever Freddie comes to the crease, ther eis huge anticipation. Which Flintoff will turn up? The one who will smash the ball to all parts? Or the one who will tentatively prod at the ball? Even playing badly, he is entertaining.

Flintoff contributes more to the team. His batting may not be as good, but he is a front line bowler, the leading slip fielder, and a talismanic figure.

Flintoff is the heartbeat of the England team.

Oh, and have I mentioned that he is from Lancashire!

    The Red Rose Rules.

  4. Performance wise:  Equal.

But the way KP seems to  be handling the captaincy when Freddie sadly couldn't JUST shades it for me.

You're a hard task master Koo Kee!

  5. Both are great players. Freddie is a combination player, not a great bowler, not a great batsman, but a comprehensive player, doing both. He has a tremendous presence on the field.

Kevin Pietersen is one of the all-time greatest test match and ODI batsman of the world. His strokes are out of the world. He reminds us of Vivian Richards at his peak. Since he is a great-batsman, people are likely remember him more often as he entertains them more than any body. People like batsmen better than bowlers and so Pietersen gets more recognition than Flintoff whereas Flintoff is a lot better player, contributing more to his team, if you add up bowling and batting performances together. If you take 20-22 runs as equivalent of one wicket, you will find that the 'per match' performance of Freddie is a lot lot better than any body's in the present English team. Much after he has retired, people will talk of Freddie and also Kevin too.

  6. Freedie has returned from a long exile from the cricket world. He has faced  tough days without cricket & it hasn't been easy for him to be there & do the best he can. So, according to me F.F is simply the best & the great all-rounder is back with a B A N G !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I like Flintoff best, always have. What a great game it must have been with both men doing so well.I say Freddy to both your Qs.

  8. Freddie was awesome

  9. Let them hunt in tandem for sake of England.

  10. Both are great players but i would rather KP. KP is much more consistent that Freddie but Freddie is much more devastating on his day!-

  11. flintoff
