Fredrich AC compressor not kicking in?

"i have a fredrich AC that when the compressor needs to go on, i hear a rattling sound for about two seconds by the fuse box downstairs, and the compressor doesnt go on??? what could i do about it???

  1. The compressor isn't starting.

    It is locked up or the start relay and/or start cap are bad. It draws a lot of power when they try to start and are seized and that is why the fuse box is "complaining".

    Most likely it is toast. Depending on the BTU, the size of it, the cost of repairs usually exceeds the value.

    Since they charge you for disposal most places these days, it generally doesn't cost you much more than the disposal cost to get an estimate and dispose of it if it not worth fixing.

    Take it to a shop to avoid the trip charge of a technician. For the most part we stopped working on window units because of the lower replacement costs these days.
