Luka Modric has done everything, other than handing in a transfer request, to let Tottenham Hotspur know that he wants a move to Chelsea. The Croatian midfielder was in talks yesterday with the Spurs chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy over a possible move to Stamford
Bridge, but the meeting didn’t go as planned and it seems Modric will be forced to stay at White Hart Lane.
Levy said while speaking to reporters after the meeting:
“Everything was fine, we had a very good conversation and as I said previously Luka Modric will not be sold.
It's the end of it. As I said a few weeks ago there's no further discussion on it. He was on holiday, we've now had the conversation and he understands our position.
I'm sure once he's back with his team-mates everything will be fine.”
Levy seems to have forgotten that slavery was abolished in the 1800’s and that making Modric continue on at White Hart Lane would be forced labour. Forced labour is defined as
“when an individual is forced to work against their will, under threat of violence or other punishment, with restrictions on their freedom.”
How can something like this be allowed to continue on in the 21st century? Modric has certain rights under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which the Croatian does not seem to be aware of. The 25-year-old midfielder apparent ignorance
of his basic rights and Spurs continued insistence of exploiting that is exactly why http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 should do something.
However, the Blues are helpless, having their initial bid of £22 million for the player rejected by Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp. It has even been rumoured that the English manager is keeping Modric locked up in his basement and only allows the
Croatian midfielder to leave for scheduled press conferences, like the meeting with Levy yesterday.
Do the management at Tottenham actually believe Modric will be happy at the club and continue to give him 100% in the upcoming season if he is forced to stay? His heart is obviously set on a move to Chelsea and will not be satisfied until he gets to make
his dream move. The Spurs know well enough that Modric has a chance at top football at Chelsea, but it is their stubbornness that won’t let them allow the player to leave.
Despite a terrible trophy-less season, Chelsea finished second on the English Premier League table, which means they have successfully qualified for the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming season. Tottenham on the other hand, suffered a slump towards the
end of the season because of which they finished fifth on the Premier League table.
They have failed to qualify for the Champions League and will instead be competing in the second tier of the European competition, the UEFA Europa League. Punishing Modric for being ambitious just doesn’t seem fair. Is it really his fault that he aspires
to play in the Champions League with Chelsea rather than the Europa League with the Spurs?
Everyone knows the Blues bid of £22 million for Modric was just an ice-breaker and in this summer’s inflated transfer window they will have to pay much more to secure the services of the Croatian midfielder. Something in the range of £35 million would be
more than sufficient for a player like Modric, but that is only if Spurs agree to continue with negotiations.
