Free Space on OS Hard Drive?

For some reason, my computer keeps telling my that I have hardly any space left under my OS(C:) drive. I've already went and deleted a junk load of programs I don't use (even some that I do, but already have on my desktop) and went through Disk Cleanup, yet still I only have 5. something GB left. Can someone tell me how to delete the non-existant things taking up space on my Hard Drive?

5gig should be enough as long as you don't install anything else.

Try to defragment your C: drive.  It might help :)

Try cleaning up temporary internet files.  tools->internet options-> delete files.  Also, you may want to do a c: drive search (advanced search) for any files that are <1 meg.  Its possible that a program is creating multiple small files that is filling up your drive.  Another thing you can look for is in c:\program files for any removed applications that are still lingering.

Make sure you emptied your recycling bin, or they are still taking up space on your hard drive.

Software usually doesn't take up as much space as media files, like movies, music, photos.

It depends on what OS you are using.  

I know that on Vista, the D: drive is only for recovery.  If you tried to do any backups recently, you may have accidentally told you're computer to backup the files directly to the D: drive.  That will give you the message that you are getting, no matter what programs you delete from the C: drive.  

To get rid of junk you may not need on the C: drive, if you aren't sure what it does or if you need it, just do a search for it on the internet to find out what it is.  Also, there is a column in the add/remove programs section of your computer that will tell you how often you use a program.  If you don't see that column, just right click on the bar where the column headings are ("Name, Publisher, Installed On, Size") and when the small window opens, click on the "more" option.  When that window opens, click the "Last Used On" box and then click "OK."

Unfortunately,you need to do some cleaning

5 gigs is okay,but you may want to delete old games or obsolete programs by hand from the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs Menu.
