Freesat on Sky TV?

Question

i currently have a sky box with a freesat card and do not give rupert murdoch any money for any of the pay tv channels.my question is if i buy a sky + box off ebay will i be able to watch one channel and record another at the same time off the sky+ box.the reason i ask is when i phoned sky they told me that to use the recording facility on a sky+ box you had to subscribe to their pay channels.can anyone tell me if this is true or not
