Question:

Freezer quit working

Recently purchased upright freezer 2nd hand. It was working fine when I bought it. Kept freezer upright in transport. No damage at all from transport, but it did get very cold in transport. After transporting it to my place I waited 24 hours and plugged it in. It did not run but did make a slight buzzing noise for 5-10 seconds before the overload sensor tripped off. Tried again a few minutes later, same result. Warmed up the compressor/motor unit really well with a blow dryer and tried again, same result.

Some thoughts:
motor burned up? why?
relay gone bad? why?
overload sensor bad? why?
could the polarity of my outlet be reversed? (but this shouldn't be a factor with an AC motor anyhow, or could it be?)

Compressor/motor is one hermetically sealed unit with 3 terminals. 2 terminals plug in from the relay which I believe is on the hot side of the circuit, the 3rd plugs into the overload sensor on the nuetral side of the circuit.
