French Youth Hostels?

Hello can I have some help please, could somebody please explain the concept of youth hostels in France & are they same to the ones in the UK.

Youth hostels are the same all over the world.

Some require membership, some don't.

Some limit the amount of nights you can spend there - especially during busy times of the year.

You sleep dormitory style regardless of age or s*x.

Everyone shares the same bathrooms and kitchen facilities.

Some serve food, have beer nights and have tours.  Others are just a roof over the head.

I think a lot of how youth hostels are depends on the individuals that run them.
