I have a Russian dwarf and a robo hamster. What are some good fresh foods for these little guys?

BTW, they are in separate cages.

  1. Baby carrots, green leaf lettuce [not iceberg], apples & orange wedges. I think you can also give them oats. But go easy on the fresh veggies ~ too much and they'll get the runs, which dehydrates them. Keep an eye out for wet-tail - a dirty vent can lead to death if not treated in time.

  2. Okay, well in a book from the library it gave me a big list of safe foods:

    apples

    bananas

    blueberries

    carrots

    cauliflower

    chicken (cooked)

    corn (cob to gnaw on)

    cottage cheese

    dandelion leaves

    dog biscuits

    eggs (cooked)

    fish (cooked)

    grapes

    lettuce (iceberg)

    meadow hay

    meal worms

    meat (cooked)

    pasta (cooked)

    potatoes (cooked or raw)

    raspberries

    rice (boiled)

    sprouts

    strawberries (very nice treat!)

    sunflower seeds

    tomatoes

    white or whole grain bread

    yogurt

and I'm almost positive they can also eat celery and cucumber

What NOT to feed him :

    canned or frozen vegetables

    uncooked beans

the green parts on tomatoes and potatoes

    sprouting potatoes

    fried foods

table scraps and leftovers from your own table

    sweets of any kind

    Hope I helped!

  3. Here are some fruits and vegetables you can give your hamster:

    Apples

    Banana

    Peach

    Blueberries

    Cantaloupe

    Strawberries

    Corn

    Broccoli

    Carrots

    Cucumbers

    Green beans

    Peas

    Zucchini

You can also give him some of these foods:

    Mealworms

    Whole grain bread

    Plain dog biscuits

Cooked ground beef with no grease

    Cooked turkey or chicken

    Cooked egg

    Low fat yogurt

    Plain brown rice

    Cooked pasta

    Oatmeal

    Plain popcorn

    Cheerios

    Unsaled pumpkin seeds or peanuts

Never give your hamster almonds.  Avoid junk food like chips or chocolate.  Avoid apple seeds, grape seeds, raw potatoes, avocado, pork, citrus fruits or tomatoes, and watermelon.

Check the link for the complete list.  Just remember anything listed here or the list is meant to be given in moderation.  Too much can give your hamster diarrhea and too much fruit would be way too much sugar for them.

BTW anything they don't eat should be taken out of the cage because if it starts to rot that could be harmful to your hamster.

  4. The main things to stay away from are lettuce (far too much water content- can cause diarrhea and liver problems. Fine in small amounts, but I wouldn't bother), citrus fruits and tomatoes (poisonous). My hamster likes small pieces of banana and raisins. She also loves the scraps from carrots, particularly the peel as they're the right size and shape for her.

Here's the site most of the members who have answered have copied their information from. I find this site really useful for all sorts of things. http://www.hamsters.co.uk/hamster_fruit_... You can see that there is also another page dedicated to other treats you can give them which is here: http://www.hamsters.co.uk/hamster_treats... Full of stuff you wouldn't have thought they'd eat!

  5. lets see, my suggestion would be like fruits.

    such as

    -Apple

(note: cut into to small pieces)

    -pear

    -etc...

    dont feed them oranges though!

you can also feed them like seeds.

    hope i helped.:/

  6. Buy some Katee Hamster Food.  It is good for them.

  7. I have 2 robos and i give them a little bit of fresh fruit every morning and i give them lots of different stuff like carrots, apple, pear, banana just fresh fruit. I don't give them it at the same time i give them different things each day

My robos love apple the best!

  8. Apples, carrots, celery, lettuce. Cut them into little pieces.  Anything they don't eat, take it out of the cage before it spoils.

  9. Vegetables, Fruits, and Greens

    Apple

Banana - remove from cage when it starts to go soft

    Broccoli leaves and stalks

Brussel Sprouts - small amounts occasionally; not all hamster like the strong taste

    Cabbage

    Carrots

    Cauliflower leaves and stalks

    Celery

    Chicory

    Clover

Corn on the Cob - a favourite, dried or not

    Courgettes

    Cress

    Cucumber

    Dandelion

    Dock

    Grapes

    Green pepper

    Groundsol

    Kale

Lettuce - small amounts at any one time: in excess it can cause liver problems

    Melon

    Parsley - a good tonic

Pear - remove from cage when it starts to go soft

    Peas

    Plantain leaves

    Prunes

Rasberry plant leaves - beneficial for diarrhoea

    Spinach

    Swede

    Sweetcorn

    Turnip

    Watercress

Vegetables should be introduced slowly to a hamster's diet as too much can cause diarrhoea.

    Other tidbits that hamsters enjoy

    Acorns

    Biscuits

    Boiled Potatoes

    Bread

Breakfast Cereal - (not the very sweet ones); they particularily seemto like "All Bran", "Cheerios" and "Corn Flakes"

    Cake - no icing/frosting

    Cheese

    Crackers - non-salted

    Crickets

    Currants

    Dog Bicuits

    Egg - scrambled or boiled

    Horse Chesnuts

    Mealworms

    Nuts

    Pasta - uncooked

    Raisins

    Sultanas

    Toast

    Yoghurt

You should be careful not to feed too much sweetened food as these could cause the hamster to bcome fat.

NEVER feed a hamster any of the following:

    Anything with sharp thorns

    Buttercups

    Candy

    Chocolate

    Garlic

    Gum

    Onions

    Rabbit Mix (containing antibiotic ingredients)

    Raw Kidney Beans

    Sweets

    Toffee/Caramel

    Hope I Helped :D
