  1. there are two main types of freshwater lakes, these are eutrophic (nutrient rich/oxygen poor) and oligotrophic (nutrient poor/oxygen rich).  Although both maintain the same salinity, oligotrophic lakes usually contain more fish as there is more oxygen available.   The eutrophic lakes contain more cyanobacteria, and other smaller organisms that require less oxygen.  Other freshwater communities include those in rivers and streams where many fish and invertebrates inhabit.  

    When comparing and contrasting, look at different ecosystems and how different organisms interact when the enviroment changes.  The answer you give can either be broad or detalied depending on how closely you would like to compare different freshwater biomes.

    Similarities--similar osmoregulation, similar food chains

    Differences--depending on oxygen availability you see different carnivores, different currents allow for different spieces to be able to live, etc.
