Friday the 13th Remake?

Question

What's up with the remake? I see teasers showing the infamous hockey mask but that didn't come in until the 3rd movie and Jason wasn't even the killer in the first movie, his mother was.

Are they trying to cash in on the hope that this generation doesn't know these facts or is this some odd remake of the first 3?

As everyone said, they are doing it to make money. they are also doing it to see if they can bring back the Jason movies. Guessing they are figuring the current generation might take an interest in new jason movie and reboot the show. But over all, if it reboots the show and they make another 5 movies or so...they are making more money of the series.

They are also remaking Nightmare on Elm St, and from the sounds of it, it might be pretty interesting to see. they said they will make the nightmares more thrilling and psychotic than before rather than slashing and scattering blood around.

I thought Jason butted heads with Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street? Where do they get these remake ideas from? More than odd I, when one has seen so many horror flicks you tend to become numb and oblivious to the pocketbook effect of Hollywood. That's probably why Independent films keep getting better. All about the big M... MONEY.

I read about it, and it suppose to try to do what the Halloween remake did. Explain the mysteries of Crystal Lake and the hockey mask, and a bunch of other things. Personally I think it is going to suck, but the only reason I plan on seeing it is because Jared Padalecki is in it. But I think it is for the younger generation to make money from. Think about it. People these days want a part of things like that. LIke me, I'm 18 and wish I could go back to Woodstock! So.... it's just to make money.

Yes and no.-they are trying to cash in on the hopes that the new generation doesn't know these 'facts'.

Whether or not anythhing in the Friday the 13th universe can be considered a 'fact' is debatable. The original movies had no inner conitnuity and just piled on whatever they thought would bring butts into theater seats. They often contradicted each other and make no sense when watched back to back.

The re-make is taking the most iconic, memorable parts of the movies and re-launching them the way the last James Bond moive or The Dark Knight movies did with those characters.

The movie will acknowledge Jason's mother in the first few minutes of the  movie and imply that Jason Boorhees (post living in the bottom of Crystal Lake) has already actively been killing teen-ager for a while.

From what I've read, it's supposed to be Friday the 13th parts 1, 2, and 3 mixed together as one. I'm guessing they will spend the first ten or fifteen minutes by establishing the history of Mrs. Vorhees and Jason's death, then they will probably just focus on Jason finding the mask and killing teenage counselors. Honestly, Friday the 13th movies were always made to make money. They were never meant to be Oscar nominees. They were always cheaply made and the first four Friday the 13th movies were obvious copycats of the movie Halloween. Eventaully, Friday the 13th started to copycat itself after the first four movies. Unlike the Halloween remake,  Friday the 13th remake has really nothing to lose. It's not like the first one was Casablanca. So, there is nowhere to really go, but up. Besides, the budget for this film is really high it's like 19 Million or so, where as the first one was like 700,000. The other sequels cost around the same, maybe a million or so. So, it made be very fun and entertaining. Honestly, though, who cares? It's just a stupid horror flick. But I have seen a sneak preview on Youtube.com. It's an actaul preview that was shown at comiccon. Anyway, it looks pretty good. Jason actually runs fast in this one!
