Friends in Ballet?

Question

I'm 13 and I'm starting ballet in September. I'm worried that I won't make any friends=( I have good friends at school, and I'm not shy or weird, but what if all the girls in ballet are mean and they don't like me because I'm nice and I don't just care about money, clothes, and gossip? Please help, and can you share your experience? Thanks so much!

I have the same problem most girls in ballet are kinda mean if they won't be nice then you don't need to be there friends any way that's why if they don't talk to me i won't talk to them P.S you're not there for friends you're there to dance=^..^=

People in every profession and what not have foot long sticks up there butts.

There are some extremely nice ballet dancers and some extremley rude ones.

Not all dancers care only about clothes, gossip, and money.

That's just a sterotype.

One that I, being who I am, defy a lot.

And who knows,

you might not have to worry about any of this stuff.

I've been in classes where everyone was nice as can be and we were all the greatest friends and really like a family :)

It's okay to be nervous, but you don't need to be.

ive been in your shoes before.

i started ballet in fith grade, so everyone else was ahead of me. at first, i was really worried about what the other girls would think.

so i gave myself a little pep talk and told myself i could do this i just needed to be confident and friendly. so when i walked into the studio that day with that mindset, i felt great.

i didnt feel like i stuck out. the other girls were actually very nice and helped me when i asked.

dont worry about what they will think of you. just focus on being friendly and open.

Usually, people that do ballet are really nice, you just have to get to know them. They are only trying to look and act s****. so you would think they are cool and really good. Believe me, it took awhile for me to make friends when I first started ballet and jazz, so don't stress. Just try to be nice to them if they aren't being nice to you. Hope this helps! Good luck!

it depends. if you are very good the girls will hate your guts. wich is a complement. but if your not so good they will include you in stuff. and like you. a proffesional once tol d me you want people to talk about you in ballet. that will show how good you really are

why would you even think that the girls are going to be mean? "because your nice" it doesn't matter if they're dancers or not, it depends on who they are! all dancers dont care about money, clothes, and gossip! i love ballet! it gives me a lot of extra time to hang out wiht my friends from dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont worry in real life there are not many bullies in ballet that is only on television if people are better than you they will most likely help you. nd dont worry most people who take ballet don't care about money, clothes and gossip.

I'm a ballerina too. I've been dancing since like I was 3. I use to be bad and was in the lower level groups. The advanced girls were always mean to me not just cause I wasn't rich, it was just that I couldn't dance. They use to look at me as if they were like the goddesses of ballet and they're not! Ever since I started  practicing more and became better. Since after then I've become better and everyone if the advance girls treated me differently. Hope I helped! And good luck you'll do fine and try  to be nice to everyone and trust me it will be hard for them to be mean to you.

I don't do ballet but I might consider it.

Before when I took my first lesson of hip hop class, it was for older kids. (teens). So all the girls seemed really nice but I noticed that none of them really talk to me. From September until like May I had no friends in dance. T___T I'm nice and all but I'm just really shy. I didn't take initiative, meaning that I didn't start the conversation first until someone talked to me because they pity me or w/e.

Although you just have to try, it's not like you're spending everyday with them. Try and make friends. If they're too mean, don't let them ruin your class. Just dance.

i do ballet to, i feel lucky because my best friend does dancing with me, i find it hard making friends, i get shy and quite self conscious, but your there to dance so you could just concentrate on your dancing, but I'm sure there will be at least one nice person there that will befriend you and they'll be nice to you. i had to do a modern class with girls that were younger than me, they didn't really talk to me but i concentrated on the dancing, and anyways you don't really get the chance to talk at all anyway, you just dance! good luck, and enjoy it! don't worry about it at all! it will work out!

idk if your place is strict but where i go u only have time yo talk to ppl when youre switching ur shoes. its always great to make friends but if you dont, its ok cuz u r there for dance.
