From colour to black and white?

i have sky connected through a dvd recorder and sometimes the colour changes to black and white on the television i have checked all the leads and connections and they seem ok.what could be the problem

The way you describe the way they are connected is wrong. You need the sky box connected direct to AV1 into your tv then you should connect the DVD recorder to the second scart connection on your sky box. When you want to record from sky just make sure you set the recorder to its AV channel and you should be ok.
