  1. no way. i would use a spray for birds that have mites. frontline can kill your hen. its not made for birds. i would go to either your local farm supply store, or a petstore that carries bird supplies and pick some up. it usually comes in a spray, to make it easier to apply to your hen. good thinking of asking first!

  2. Are you sure your hen has mites??  Can you see them?  You can buy a bird mite and lice spray from any pet shop.  Just follow the directions on the bottle.  Frontline will kill your hen.

  3. Some of those meds meant for one animal are toxic to other animals, for example something in the dog tick medicine is toxic to cats.

I'd ask the vet to be on the safe side.

  4. Common pesticides like frontline contain fipronil, a phenylpyrazole insecticide.

This is highly toxic to certain bird species (I'm not sure which). To others, it is less toxic. Still, it isn't safe to use on birds.

Here's some more info on it:

There are many products on the market that have been effective for treating mites in chickens. Products such as Sevin dust have been used effectively on both coops and directly on the birds. This is a carbaryl based insecticide that will directly kill the existing mites. Re-treament is usually necessary due to the eggs that will hatch and reinfest the birds and coop. Orange Guard is effective organic non-toxic treatment for the coop itself, but cannot be used directly on the birds. All will respond to pour-on medications, such as Eprinex.

In addition to the above, Scaley leg mites can be treated with a direct contact treatment. Petrolatum jelly, vegetable, mineral, linseed oil are effective when directly applied to the legs and repeated every two days till scales are smooth again. Adding 1 part kerosene to two parts oil has been noted to be effective as well.

Good Luck, hope I was helpful to you!
