Question:

Fuel pump issues?

I have an older ('71) Johnson 20 hp outboard. It needs a fuel pump, I cant find a rebuild kit for it, and a replacement pump is almost $100.00. That seems ridiculous, does anyone have any experience with these motors? Is there a newer pump that is rebuildable that will retrofit?

  1. no

  2. I am not sure about Johnson or OMC products but Land and Sea sell alot of NLA Mercury and Mercruiser products. Check them.

  3. probably not, these are a diaphram type, but sealed so no rebuild, just by the right part, don't try the 9 dollar electric pump trick, it will flood out the carb, and leave you adrift at the worst time...good luck

  4. You can find any of the parts you need from  C-C Marine. They

sell all the different types of diaphragms for Johnson-Evinrude

from about the early 60's to the present. You can find them on

line at C C Marine. This should fix your problem.

  5. Sierra marine products has a good selection of pumps and rebuild kits for older OMC products.  You might need the OEM part# to reference.

  6. ebay and check the internet there are outboard motor junk yards that sell stuff like that try out board junk yards on google see what you get or check ebay
