Question:

Full braces for the first time ?

So, I've had braces before, but only on top and they were only on my front four teeth. Now, I have a full mouth of braces. My teeth hurt and it feels like someone is pressing against my teeth really, really hard. What can I do to make the pain at lease subside for awhile? I know about taking pain killers, but I'm not a big fan of taking pills. That's probably going to be my last resort!

  1. All three of my kids went through having full braces.

Best advice is to take Motrin or Advil 30 minutes before your orthodontist appointment, then stay on the medication regularly for a few days.  I understand not being a big fan of taking pills.  As a mom, I didn't particularly like giving my kids medicine, but...there's little risk with Motrin and Advil.

Also, have your mom plan soft meals for a few meals after a visit to the orthodontist.  Our standards were chicken noodle soup or spaghetti, and lots of milk shakes.  The coldness of the shake helped with the discomfort.

  2. my friend puts wax on them to stop them hurting :)

  3. I had full braces, top and bottom. Sorry but the only thing I found that worked were pain killers. Speak to your local pharmacist who can maybe suggest alternative treatments.

  4. If there is any part of the braces that is digging into your skin, they usually give you wax to put on it. But as for the pain itself..painkillers are the only way to go. Sorry.

    Braces suck, I know.

  5. I got full braces last year, and I know what you're going through. I took lots of tylenol or advil. I know you're not a fan of pills but it is the easiest. I would reccomend only eating soft foods such as, mashed potatoes, ice cream, jello, pudding, etc. Good Luck!
