Funny smelling dryer?

we just got a dryer on sunday it is 2nd hand and been stored in a garage for quite some time anyway the lint filter is all clean but as soon as i turned it on i smelt funny like a burning smell so i turned it off, could this be just dust from storage how would i get rid of all that safely so i can dry my clothes?

  1. The air that goes through the clothes is drawn up from the inside, past the element to the drum. Likely in moving it, dust on the bottom was loosened and then when you ran it the dust was pulled up on the element where it burnt.

    Dryer are supposed to be opened up and the dust removed on occasion. I assumed it was electric and not gas. Gas has the burner on the bottom and it is even more important to clean those out. But those have a panel on the lower front for access.

    Electrics require opening the top and removing the front to service them.

  2. Wash the lint filter under a running water tap. It can be blocked with an invisible film from those anti-static sheets people use in dryers, even though the filter might look perfectly clean.
