GED? What Is It really?

I've done my year 11 education, with year 12 subjects, but now i'm working full time, and now 18. I was wondering if there was anything that was accredited, that I can do instead of my year 12? I heard people have done their GED, instead of finishing year 12 the old fashion way? is this true? if so, how can I do it?

This is true!

Go to your community college and either sign up for GED Classes, or go through the "Literacy Coalition" which assigns you a tutor (you can even ask your mom or an adult friend to go through the training to teach you!)

Literacy Coalition is probably your best bet since you work full time.

GED classes are 9-5 Mon-Fri here.

You take predictor tests at regular intervals. Test when the program coordinators feel it appropriate.

Online! I've heard someone finish their GED in 2 weeks! But he was from Texas, so maybe their special? You know those infomercials in the afternoon, which offer to train you for the "job of your dreams?" Well, some of those offer GED programs, which you can even take at night, to finish up. If you're still lost, your local penny saver, yellow pages, are good fashion "411" directory should be able to assist you. If anything else fails, call your congressman! Kidding...

If you are still in high school, contact a local testing center before doing anything.

In many states, they require you to be out of school for at least a year before taking the test.

For your question, if you want, you can drop out of school and take the GED test. It is not a hard test, and if you have already finished 11th grade, you'll pass it with ease.

However, if you are not in a terrible hurry, I strongly suggest that you finish high school and get a diploma.
