Can Guinea Pigs Eat Yogurt?

Please don't answer this if you don't know for sure.

(it's people yogurt, no guinea pig yogurt treats)

I have Astro brand fat-free vanilla yogurt, with no sugar, no aspertame, no fat. It has skim milk in it, flavouring, colour, etc...

Don't ask about it and no mean comments. I just need to know. Can they?

  1. They really shouldn't have anything made with milk as it can't be digested properly.  While a very, very tiny bit (ie: a small taste only) probably won't cause problems, it is a bad habit to feed human food to pets.  Yogurt would be better than other dairy products though...just always make sure that you never feed any pet anything with any artificial sweetners (even Splenda)-I looked up the Astro yogurt and it didn't have any that I could see listed.

Shouldn't hurt, but keep the servings small and keep an eye out to make sure they don't get diarrea or any other signs of illness or lactose intollerance.

  2. no they are not supposed to eat it because it is a dairy product and the only dairy product that they are supposed to eat is cheese but u should only feed cheese to them as a very special treat

  3. As long as it's natural yogurt - yes, they can eat it.  Astro yogurt is fine.  Only feed it to your piggy as a treat once in a while.

  4. Yes!  I took in a guinea pig who had a respiratory infection and the vet actually recommended yogurt in addition to the antibiotics.  She really loved it too!

  5. No, they shouldn't have dairy.
