It's completely dead. I've used the overload button, there is no place underneath for any kind of tool and I've shut off all electric and it's still dead.

What now?

Thank you!

  1. Look at the electrical outlets on the wall of the kitchen. You may have a GFIC outlet that tripped. You can tell these easily since they have two little buttons in between the outlet plugs. One says Test and the other says Reset. Push the Reset.

  2. maybe the outlet has gone bad.try connecting it to another using a extension cord just to check it out. if that is the problem have a pro check your outlet .if that doesn't work there is a way to check if you have something lodged in the disposal. first unplug ( very important) then feel around inside for a stuck object. this is easier if you disconnect the disposal from your sink and remove to top. there are usually have 3 to 4 bolts , simply remove, remove the gasket ,and dislodge. it also could have just burned out.

  3. Then get a new one installed go to Home Depot they dont' cost that much to have a pro do it for you.

  4. Check the outlet where it is plugged in to see if you have power when you turn the breaker back on and flip the switch.  If you have power, turn it back off, then try a broom handle in the top of the disposal.  Using the broom handle (or hammer handle, long screwdriver, etc.) try turning the cutting blades to free it up.  If you can get it to turn freely, then try turning it back on to see if it works.  If not, it may be time for a new one.  They are easy to install yourself.
