Garbage from Canada?

This really bugs the heck out of me. Who ever allowed Canada to truck all of their garbage into the US in the first place. I mean look at all of the land mass that Canada has to dunp their stuff. The nerve of them.

Its a matter of finances, and environment.

The main garbage that your talking about is the shipping of Toronto's municipal waste to Michigan for disposal. When the contract was signed to ship Toronto's waste to Michigan this was not a long term plan. Prior to this Toronto looked at several options for waste disposal one was an old open pit mine. The reason they didn't go this route as the impermeable liner needed for environmental regulations would be astronomical and probably not feasible. Both financially and environmentally.

Also Michigan had a large facility to dispose of garbage and they were contracted. I also would like to point out that Michigan also takes garbage from neighbouring states as well.

Now for Toronto this is only a short term plan as they have stepped up their recycling. They have garbage police and want to be garbage free by 2012 I believe. Although this is a great goal I think some wastes such as medical waste will not be recycleable but that's a personal opinion. But the point is that Toronto is trying to become garbage free so they will not have to ship their garbage to Michigan.

Now you say the nerve of Canadians, did you know as part of another agreement the US ships to Canada hazardous waste to be securely stored? Hazardous waste is much more dangerous than municipal waste that is shipped to Michigan.

Also its a matter of Environmental regualations and agreements. Some governments cooperate to help each other out... One has a facility to dispose of municipal waste another has a secure area for hazardous waste.

You know pollution doesn't know borders so we all need to cooperate to solve environmental issues we can't be stuck on a border issue. If we get stuck on that then I'm afraid the environment loses.  

So whats more important a border or the environment?

Do you know how much pollution drifts in to Canada from the US, you people burn up more fuel than any country on earth and you think its your right as Americans to do as you bloody please
