  1. What's really laughable is being willing to pay more for gas than you absolutely have to. Two big differences between most of Europe and the US, is that they have efficient public transportation, and besides, things are much closer together. Their cities grew up before the invention of the automobile, so there are few neighborhoods where you have to travel any distance to buy groceries. Here in the US, things are spread out, you have to drive to work, to shop, to survive.

Europe pays more for gas partly because fewer people are buying it, and since they can get by without so much its more of a luxury. The biggest part of the price difference that they pay is in higher taxes.

Anyone over here who thinks we should pay higher taxes, please just donate money to the government and leave me out of it, I'm busy enough trying to support my family and other more worthwhile causes.

As it is increased taxes explain most of the difference between today's gas prices and the inflation adjusted prices of the mid 1950's. The war disrupting supplies is another large part of it, and we also have speculators bidding up the price.

The good news is its going to come down. Speculators are going to be losing some money, but with production of shale oil in Canada, new drilling rigs in the North Sea, and various wells in Texas being put back into production we may see a dramatic lowering of gas prices soon. If there is a war with Iran though, then all bets are off and get ready to wait in line for the stuff.

High gas prices are also doing wonders for investments and development of alternative energy. Hydrogen here we come.

  2. I read that people in France are paying about $10 bucks a gallon......they are probably LAUGHING at us for making a big deal over $4 dollars or so.  It seems like every time I pass this one particular gas station, the price of gas goes up by 10 cents or so.

  3. $3.73 here in South Houston

  4. its bushs fault he is give the oil companies major tax breaks and these are his own words

i will veto any bill that comes to me to cut those tax breaks

i bet gas will go down when election time comes so the oil companies can keep there buddies in the white house

btw the other day i saw on the news there was some place in CA that had gas for $5.40
