so as it turns out u vet bikers are right. not a matter of if but when will u wipe out. I had my first and hopefully last today. thank god i was going like 15, didnt even hurt. my left muffler got scruffed up a bit, but it isnt noticible from normal eye level. but my gear shift got pushed ALL the wayup, it was like at a 90 degree agle from the ground. neway my uncle just manually pushed it back into normal position. my question is if this could have negative affetcs. it shifts fine know, but when i shift into first it feels empty ( idk thats what it sounds and feels like). could this just be paranoia from droping my bike for the first time? ohh by the way its a 08 kawi vulcan 500. id only had two weeks and it was brand new...... man that hurt

  1. bad news for you man - its not going to be your last. there are more crashes ahead of you.

  2. well ride on it for a while at moderatly low speeds until you feel comfortable with it again!

  3. dont let BIKERKNOB get to you,he's just a goof wanna-be,doesnt know his hole from an azs in the ground, lol,he's just p.o'd because he didnt get elected prom queen

  4. that is just a first.  ride it and see how it does.  If it starts giving problems see if the dealer will do something before out of warrenty.

  5. get a new lever. they aren't that expensive. I have replaced many gear levers, brake/ clutch levers, etc. falling is part of riding, that's why we wear helmets and protective gear right. Keep the shiny side up and the wheels on the ground.

  6. After being bent like that it's not going to feel normal.  Best thing would to replace the lever and do a closer inspection of it when you do.  It may still feel a little strange.  Even in minor incidences the bike will never be quite the same again.  You'll get used to the new feel, just make sure it's working ok when you change the lever.

  7. My friend, now you know what the ground feels like. Glad for you it wasn't a HARD crash, but even dropping it and standing up is a slap. We all have dropped them and we all have looked at it like we devastated our inner being. Get on it and ride it without thinking about the shifter. If it has a problem it will show up. No matter new or used, the damaged shifter isn't under warranty and either way you pay the damage. Sorry it happened to you and glad you weren't hurt. You have three more times down to tie with me on drops. I am waiting for my next one but don't look forward to that either. Just a fact of life. If you ride, you will fall. Just try to remember what caused the spill and avoid that circumstance from here on. Better riding days to ya and know that I know you learned something. Safe riding to ya!

  8. It hurt, did it?  Where was your GEAR?  Helmet?  Gloves?  God made you go 15mph, did he?

Or was it your own lack of skill that caused it to happen?

Didn't listen to the suggestions to get a USED bike first, did you?  Didn't listen to people that KNOW you'll drop your first bike numerous times?

15mph is nothing, fella.  Once you get around 40+ things can get really nasty, and if you don't have the right gear on, yo can expect to be visited by a cranky wet-nurse who will scrub your road rash with a wire brush daily as you wait for your skin grafts.

This is reality, pal, and there are TONS of riders that know what to do about keeping themselves breathing and upright when riding.  You would be wise to listen to them.

Get that shift lever replaced by the dealer, suck up the exorbitant cost, and learn your lesson.
