  1. French is the main language in Geneva.

Many people speak German and/.or English.

Older folks DO NOT speak English, because they did not  learn it in school, German is the second language to learn and it was mandatory.

Today, they have a choice between German and English. So younger generation MAY speak some English

Regarding the cost there....it is relative. Similar  than New York, Paris or London

  2. French is the most common language in the Geneva/Lac Leman area.  however, if you stay in the big cities like Geneva and Lausanne, practically everyone will speak English.  (and sadly, most Swiss people - regardless whether they speak German or French - speak English better than Americans, i've found.)  you will not have any trouble at all in communicating.  Switzerland is a beautiful country; the Lac Leman area is particularly stricking, with the lake and Alps together.  i've found Western Switzerland to be more expensive than Eastern Switzerland (the German part).  but if you're smart (e.g., buy lunch at Migros or Coop instead of a restaurant), you'll be able to stretch your budget easily.

  3. I think some people speak french, german, or both. I haven't been to Switzerland but I did some kind of research about because I wanted to go. Anyways, it is expensive but you can join a travel program to Switzerland and it costs about $5000, i think it's pretty worth it. I think the exchange rate is $1- .80 swiss money. You can see Samantha Brown's passport to Europe Switzerland, you might fnd it interesting.

  4. Geneva is French speaking (situated just at the border to France) but a lot of people also speak English and some can speak a little German.

Geneva is a beautiful city but unfortunately living there is very expensive.
