Hi,

I am thinking about pursuing my MA in International Relations in Europe. I came across the Geneva School of International Relations and Diplomacy, and I became interested in this school. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what type of a school this is?

Is it considered prestigious? I looked at the website, and it seems like it's a small school with about 20 faculty members. I can't seem to figure out if it has a good standing reputation or not, although a year long Masters costs about $29,000, so I would assume that it's not a run down place based on how much they charge you. One reason why I thought that it might not be so prestigious is that they offer a PhD in 2 year period. It sounds great, but I don't understand why that specific school has only a 2 year long PhD program, while in our US graduate schools it takes 5 years for you to get your PhD.

If anyone has any experience with this school, or heard anything please let me know.

  1. I am interested in this school as well and I found that it is a VERY prestigious school with ambassadors and political/business leaders from around the world coming to talk and lecture to the students. Even though their programs are short, they're actually quite rigorous. At the end of your PhD program, you have to defend your Doctoral thesis in front of a panel of professors, and you must get a minimum of B+ and that is when you acquire your PhD.

    Hope this helps! :)

  2. Hey ..

As it happens, I have a Swiss law student visiting us right now! He says that's an excellent school with a great reputation! As to a short program, that's because Swiss schools are set up differently than US ones are. Our "kid" has been explaining it to us this week. They get much more of what we consider university level work in their gymnasium (high school), so their programs down the road are are shorter by about a year or two. Kind of a vague explaination, but hope you get the idea!
