  1. Hey ive answered a couple of your questions and have decided to get two gerbils aswel I found an awsome site that this girl/guy talks about her gerbils and other animals.

    http://www.geocities.com/padfoot_82/gerb...

Its helping me prepare for my gerbils. Good Luck with your gerbils

  2. Trust me they can jump! and high! Or they will just pile up their bedding in one corner and hop right out! Just buy a wire mesh top (should be able to get them at any pet store)or make your own! I really like my cage topper, it sets right on top of the tank and gives your gerbils a lot more room, and you can put in more bedding in the tank so they can make tunnels and dig! Head over to this web site it has a lot of info on gerbils and everything that has to do with gerbils! http://www.egerbil.com/

    Hope this helps.

  3. a book or a peice of cardboared. if u do, make sure u put tiny tiny holes so some clean air will role throught. also put a cup ontop of the cardboard or something to make sure they cat lift it up

  4. A wire mesh is the best type of lid as, because you are using an aquarium, you need as much ventilation as possible (not only for your Gerbils health but also to air out the cage).

As for jumping, they jump very high! So you will defiantly need a secure lid!

  5. I wouldn't recommend making a lid out of any flexible metal.  They'll bite at the wires until a hole is formed or chew their way out.  It happened to me before with a cheap aquarium lid.

As for anything else you can use, I wouldn't really recommend anything else.  You can't just pile big books up there because they need something that'll give them air flow, lol.

We have an all black wire cage top with firm wire topping that cannot be chewed through.  It is completely black all over.  It bends in the middle as well and it generally pretty heavy so gerbils shouldn't be able to get out too easily.  If they start lifting the lid, you can place their food bag on top the lid safely to hold it down.  ^^

Avoid the cheap wire lid that has a black plastic rim and thin, silver wiring.  This is a VERY bad lid.  Trust me.  D:
