The English International has still got 18 months left on his deal with the Merseyside club.
However, with the advent of scores of young players and the midfielder’s recurring injury problems, he faces an uncertain future once he serves out his stipulated agreement.
The 32-year old managed to make just 18 league appearances throughout the previous season. Nonetheless, so far this term, he has featured in all six of his team’s league matches and has also got 2 goals under his belt.

He revealed that he was really excited about working alongside the new manager, Brendan Rodgers, and wants to play a helping hand as the Ulsterman looks to reverse the current doleful situation at Anfield.
“I am really happy. I am enjoying my football. I feel physically strong,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“I want to go on for as long as I can. I love playing for the club. I am captain. I am living the dream. I do not want that to end.”
After putting Norwich City to the sword at the weekend, the Reds will now switch their focus on their upcoming Europa League fixture against Udinese on Thursday.
Speaking of the game, Gerrard claimed that his side were currently booming with confidence following their splendid display at the Carrow Road.
He was also optimistic that their triumph on Saturday would kick-start a winning spree for them.
“It gives you huge confidence and belief when moving into the next games… we knew, as players, if we kept listening to the manager and listening to the messages he was putting across, the first win was only round the corner,” he added.
