Get rid of basement bugs

so ive thrown together a nice hangout room for my friends and i over the past few months but every once in a while ill notice a bug that i really dont want anywhere near the place, we have parties all the time and girls tend to freak out. so far ive noticed things called house centipedes and tonight i saw a decent sized black roach climbing on the wall. its not a finished basement but all the outdoor seals and things should still be good right? the house is 3 years old. any tips on EFFECTIVE pest control, anything from poisons to lifestyle changes....
