Question:

Getting a New Kitten

I am thinking of getting a kitten to keep my other cat company. My first cat is a female about a year to a year and a half old. I'm just not sure how they would react to eachother. Any ideas?

  1. New kitten equals time and patience.  But almost always the cats work things out in their own time.

  2. Cats are terotorial but when we introduced a kitten to our other cat they were not too bad. Make sure your other cat gets alot of attention when you introduce the new kitten and keep an eye on them so they dont fight. They should be okay so fingers crossed!

  3. Well she would probably be a bit defensive at first and not like the new kitten, but if you're patient with them and don't force either of them to do anything they don't want to then there's a chance that they may get on. Introduce them slowly, but your cat will most probably hiss and growl, but it's probably the most she'll do, along with running out the room. Cats are very territorial, but there shouldn't be any real fighting.

Also be sure to give your cat extra attention if you get a kitten too because she may feel rejected otherwise.

We've had many cats and honestly, our original cat has and never will like the others, but they've got used to each other.

Good luck on getting your new kitten! :)

  4. All of the above...

the way to introduce them is this .

either leave in a carrier with the door closed.  (for a while) the carrier makes the new cat seem safe.

Or you can put in a room where the door is raised up 1" if you have that.

Then later after they have sniffed each other through the door and hissed a bit ..and the one outside has gone its own way... you can open the door... LEAVE THE KITTEN INSIDE... don't try to pull it out.

Let it come out on it's own terms.

When it is out a while ... take it over to the sand box and show it that

and then the food and show it that.

There WILL be some hissing and spitting but after a while it will subside.  and eventually they MAY play with each other.

Your present cat is young enough to accept another cat

    good luck
