Getting my WEP code?

If I have a wireless router that I have the admin password to, but not the wireless WEP code is it possible to get on the network and get into my router to pull the WEP code fro the router? I had some special settings on the router, I would hate to lose them. Or is it possible to pull it directly from my old Macbook?

  1. Connect to your wireless router with an ethernet cable.  Once you do that, you should be able to go to your web browser, and access the router interface with an ip like 192.168.0.1 (that's usually defualt).   The WEP key should be stored in the reouter under wireless security, or something like that.

Macs are much more secure against viruses and spyware than the pile of c**p they call windows.  I dont' know why there are so many mac haters.

The idiots above are telling you to use internet explorer.  Hahaha.  That's for windows dummies.  They dont even have IE available on mac anymore.

  3. I have a PCs as well as Macs.  Both are capable of accessing your WEP address.  So, it really doesn't matter.  Go to Windows Internet Explorer on a pc or go to Safari on mac.  type in   192.168.1.1   in the address bar.  Hopefully, you're using a linksys.  If it is ...  then type in  "admin" ( omit quotations), and it should bring you inside the linksys. Make sure you type "admin" in the "password" box. Click on wireless, then click on wireless security.   You'll see a list of keys possibly..   copy the first one, and then paste it to a wordpad or notepad document.  Save it just in case you lose it again or repeat these simple steps to bring you back inside of your router.  If you don't have a linksys.... simply get your instruction manual for your router or go online to the router's site to retrieve the default password.

  4. I wouldn't use the Macbook. Open Internet Explorer, type in the address bar the Default Gateway of the Network - usually 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1, type in the username - usually admin and your password - which is usually password if you haven't changed it. In there somewhere you should be able to see the WEP key to connect to the network.

What type of router do you have and I may be able to find out where you look for the WEP key on the router pages?

  5. Yeah simple.  Stop using a Mac, first off.  Then, get yourself a copy of Backtrack or WifiWay.  Then just crack your WEP password.  If you are doing it on your OWN equipment surely it's for educational purposes/testing the network security that you are the active administrator over anyways.  Right?  Riiight.
