Question:

Gilera DNA Back Disc Brake Problem!?

It's a 2001 model DNA 125 I started riding in February this year. Well for some time now the back disc brake has been squeeky (not high pitched, more like a low pitch trailing sort of sound), which has been a little annoying, but didn't affect performance. But today as I went to hit the back brake, it cut out!!! But then luckily seemed to fix itself shortly afterwards. I think I might be the cause for this problem... recently only for a bit I have been holding down the back brake occationally whilst going about 35 and keeping up speed to try and sort the problem (heck knows!), I don't know if this is the cause of it or what... what do you think the sollution would be in order to fix the problem? Please don't say WD-40!

  1. Sounds like you have no brake pads left. Look to see if the rotor is badly grooved from metal on metal contact. If it is, replace it and install new brake pads. Always check your brake wear, especially on a used bike you just picked up. I would do a complete bike inspection/major tune up, before trusting used equipment.

Best get a flashlight and take a look yourself. I do not trust bike shops to catch a cold, much less a problem with a motorcycle.
