My new house has a glass front door. Is there something I can install on the door to prevent someone from breaking the glass and unlocking the door?

  1. I don't like these in case of fire..........but you can get a double keyed dead bolt........like comercial buildings use. Also if you got a good steel man around he can make you something...but you should have another way out in case of fire..........sorry , with that is the problem with glass doors ...all it takes is a glass cutter................hope it helps........goog luck

  2. A heavy gage, lockable screen door. If your house is really stunning you might want to have a local wrought iron shop make something for you or design your own-an entryway is where you want to put a few bucks into, good for resale. Beyond that any window is equally accessible- a burglar doesn't mind hopping over a minor obstacle anyway. Or install a cheap battery operated alarm(about 20 bucks) that activates when the door is opened-usually enough for amateur thieves. I think that there are also lock sets with built in alarms.

  3. Better to have an alarm system.

  4. If it is a newer home, it is tempered glass.  It cannot be broken easily so no worries.  If it is an old home that has not been updated now might be a great time to invest in tempered glass as you will save on your energy bill as well.

  5. Tempered glass can be broken through if hit in the right area - try laminated glass (available at a glass shop) and have a professional glaizer install it. It can be broken but it will bend with the splinters. try installing some metal caging over the door - (like expanded metal)
