Question:

Global Warming, true or not?

I personally do not believe in Global Warming, though I live in Chicago and the population of conservatives such as me is very low.

So, I'm looking for evidence to the fact that Global Warming is not taking affect and that is is just cycles.

Any quote by some scientist, link to a helpful page will be appreciated.

Thanks.

  1. GLOBAL WARMING IS DEFINATLLY TRUE---

how can u explain the melting of the iceshelfs and that top scientist are saying G.W is true.... commom sence--

Also there is facts out there about Global warming

Those who do not belive are very very selfish------it is not just a climate change(that is a buch of c**p)

    GET THE FACTS

Jello= there is facts out there u are just to selfish to find them---the stupid goverment is trying to hide them :(

Bob= i totally agree with u- keep spreading the word!!!!  :)

  2. The mindset seems to be argument based. I have never understood why. Wouldn't it just make sense to be less dependent on fossil fuels? I think in Sweden a few towns have become so efficient that they actually produce more green energy then they use. This might be an example of a government working with the people instead of against. I'm waiting for ours to take action instead of forced donations.

  3. Sorry, but all the scientific data supports the theory that humans are causing the current warming.  It's not a political issue, it's a scientific one.  See the link below for an explanation of the science.

You shouldn't try to seek out information which supports what you want to believe, you should seek out all information in order to make an informed decision.

  4. True.  Note that the Admiral is very much a scientist.  And I've thrown in some conservative views for you at the end.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

    Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut

Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the vast majority of the scientific community, short and long.

    http://ipcc-wg1.ucar.edu/wg1/wg1-report....

    summarized at:

    http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report...

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

    http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/a...

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu...

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

    A few conservative views:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

"Pat Robertson (very conservative Christian leader) 'It is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air.  We really need to do something on fossil fuels.”

"I believe there is now more than enough evidence of climate change to warrant an immediate and comprehensive - but considered - response. Anyone who disagrees is, in my view, still in denial."

Ford Motor Company CEO William Clay Ford, Jr.

  5. Look up Antartica's "Larsen B".  You'll see how and entire ice shelf slipped into the ocean.  NASA and JPL scientists have confirmed via satellites that the ice sheets in Greenland or melting at a faster rate that they should be.  Check out "Naked Earth" on National Geographic channel, and you'll see that it's not a scam.  You could also check out the NASA websites or google any of the these facts.

  6. You'd be on the right track.  It's not that most people are debating whether global warming actually exists.  It does exist.  But the debate lies in why it happens (meaning is it caused by mankind) and to what extent it's occuring.  I've heard both sides of the debate and based on what I've read and seen, I believe that it's just a little blip on earth's natural cycle of heating and cooling.  And as much as Al Gore or Dana1981 here would love for you to believe it's a human-caused phenomenon that has the consensus of the scientific community behind it, they couldn't be farther from the truth.  Many prominent scientists have come out against the theory because of reasons that it's based on poor science, has become a political issue more than anything used to scare people, and plenty more reasons.  The fact is, more scientists keep jumping off the bandwagon because they are realizing it's not a global crisis like everyone initially believed.  If you want a name, try John Coleman, founder of the Weather Channel.  He believes it is one giant scam.

  7. you can watch "an inconvinient truth with al gore" .

  8. global warming/climate change is as phony as a three dollar bill. however, by the time its done the liberals will make sure you pay another 25% of the three bucks in tax to stop it.

  9. I recommend you check this out and think about it more... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

especially the last link you find on there, if you really want a better idea, watch an Inconvenient Truth, then the great global warming swindle and then, you must see, the global warming swindle debate (go straight to that last link)- that run of films should clear everything up for you.

  10. it's possible, because of the sun, but if it is true, it's not man made.

  11. All of this is so man made by the liberal media. How come we had so many volcanoes during the early years of the earth and then an ice age.The earth will change climate on a regular basis. What were those volcanoes trowing in the air... bubbles!!! If at anytime they were c**p in the atmosphere it was then but believe it or not the liberals will find a way to make it sound like it is the most important thing to take care of. They are the one that believe in evolution but only when it is convenient. Things evolve regularly. To think that we are responsible for the climat change is ridiculous. We can help the industries by recycling but that is not going to change the earth natural behavior. Now they tell you earth's animal population is suffering and in the same breath they are discovering so many new species. They have to have it their way so they can manipulate those who are easily influence.

  12. <<So, I'm looking for evidence to the fact that Global Warming is not taking affect and that is is just cycles.>>

so, if it's really true, you don't care.

you just want something to support what you want to think.

    go to co2science.com or junkscience.com.

keep in mind that 20 years ago, the junkscience guy was telling everyone that smoking was neither adictive nor harmf\ul.  surely you can believe him.

  13. If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader - download this web page.

    It will become obvious.

    Edit

Why does the ice shelf 'calving off' keep coming up!?!?

To see what it is really about - go to this web page:

    http://www.ilovemycarbondioxide.com/Anta...

Click on image at left - click on that image  -  you will see just how insignificant that small piece of ice is, probably broken off from the earthquake.

  14. YAWN.

  15. Climate change is a money and power grab scheme by the bottom feeder politicians and power brokers. It's nothing to do with ecology and everything to do with money.

Con artists like Gore have enriched themselves on this issue, taking home Oscars, Nobel Prizes and millions of dollars. Meanwhile, evangelical leaders are setting up their flocks for extreme fleecing by leftist politicos like Barack Obama, who will appeal for Christian votes by talking in glowing, biblical-sounding terms about "being good stewards of God's creation."

Here is truth about global warming:

Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.

The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.

This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since

there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.

Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is

becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).

As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).

When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.

It's been happening for millions of years.

The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY.

As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.

    Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':

    Humans did not cause it.

    Humans cannot stop it.

  16. What Ethan's  Mommy is unaware of is that all that ice is back and bigger than it was.  She is also unaware of the fact that Vikings once settled and FARMED on Greenland.  It was a lush and fertile place, not one of ice and snow.  The Earth cooled drastically to get where it is now, and now we're warming back up.

It is a natural cycle.  Look up the medieval warming period.  It was warmer then than it is now.  That should be all the proof you need to see that the earth warms and cools on its own.  We have nothing to do with it.  It is natural!

  17. Very True

  18. true

  19. The debate of whether or not global warming exist is pretty much over. As someone else has said, the evidence all shows that global warming is happening and that we have had something to do with it.

It would have happened even if we were not here, but we are speeding up the process at an alarming rate.

For example the normal CO2 content in the atmosphere before our industrial revolution was 280ppm. In 2000 it was recorded over 330ppm.

It doesn't matter if you are Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Conservative, etc. You have to stop thinking in those lines and starting thinking like someone that is a part of this planet. Party lines don't matter when it comes to our health, safety, and our lives.

  20. Being liberal or Conservative should have nothing to do with believing in global warming.

If the theory is true, then the facts should be available to everyone.  However the facts do not exist.  This is why a "consensus" is needed to interpret the tea leaves.

No one argues over the speed of light because this is objective and anyone with the will and resources can measure the speed.

Global warming is argued over precisely because it is subjective science and exist only through some peoples opinion.  No one has the knowledge to determine if it will be warmer or colder any time in the future.  Any prediction is just a guess, and guesses aren't science.
