I need an excellent attention grabber sentence for a papaer about global warming.

How about "What was known about Global Warming before 1900"?

Research the names Arrhenius, Fourier, Tyndall, Gilbert, Lowell and others.  Fourier is generally credited with establishing the mathematical relationship between CO2 and heat, used today in the high power CO2 cutting lasers.  That was in 1824.  Arrhenius is credited with quantifying the proportionality between changes in atmospheric CO2 and atmospheric temperature. Gilbert showed the relationship between Arrhenius's work and position in the periodic table.  Gilbert is often called the father of modern chemistry.  Lowell, an astronomer, saw the implications for planetary science, and published on the subject in the 1880's.
