What do you think of people who litter (or however you spell it)? Explain, and are you one of them trying to stop it?

I am against global warming. I hate KNOWING that if it doesn't stop, Earth is going to be one big ball of trash. I hope all of you are aware that our eco-system is disgusting! And the earth's core is getting thinner and thinner & before long we won't be able to breathe in oxygen because there will be no trees (they'll all be dead). What would you do on a daily basis to stop it?

  1. Global warming is caused by human greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels, not from litter.

Please see the link below for an explanation of the science.

  2. I have stopped driving and started using trains.

  3. U cant stop people from littering..cause they dont care. cause their selfish...and all everyone wants to do is make money and worry about their own comfort. a factory owner wont closr down his factory..cause he wants money. he probably wont live long enough for the earth to be a hot ball of fire so he doesnt care.....and people wont stop littering cause its too hot and they dont wanna walk all the way over there to throw it in the garbage. all you can do is make sure u are doing to right thing and try to encourage people..but good luck...... People are bringing out movies and documentaries......

  4. There was one research that said if there was one trash can/recycling bin every seven feet, people will go and dump their trash there. Apparently seven feet is the furthest distance someone would go to throw trash away.

  5. Every minute you sit at the computer and pretend to worry about it is a minute more trash piles up.

Go out and pick it up.  Be an inspiration to others.

  6. I honestly don't care about a world who never cared about me back.

If Global Warming is the cause for the demise of this world, then you wouldn't be around to see it to the end anyway. So shut up!

  7. I would not call anyone stupid, when your question does not have anything to do with global warming.  Litter has no effect on the temperature of the earth.

  8. you can help on a daily basis of Turing off lights when not in use! also don't use fancy computer  screen saver (the 3d motion ones) using the screen saver feature on your computer actually uses more energy than just putting it to sleep!

replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs ! they are 75% more efficient!

unplug things like TV's, chargers even when they are turned off they still use energy!!

buy a canvas bag for shopping!! stay away from paper and plastic! to make 14 plastic bags

you'd need the same amount of petroleum that would take to drive a car a mile!

plant trees! i have planted about 25 pine trees in my yard because i garden a lot!

don't throw away full water bottles!!

americans buy 25 billion water bottles a single year and believe it or not 2.5 million are thrown away each hour!!

people in Africa really in need of fresh water!

instead of throwing peals away etc. have your family start a compost pile!

switch to cleaner more reliable energy sources!

"one earth, one goal to balance it" ^_^

    hoped this helped!

  9. haha these idiots that think global warming is going on make me laugh.  and the funnier part is that they think its man made.

  10. One person can't do much but lots can make a diference why not make up a freewebs or piczo account and make a website all about it I can help if you want(I make them all the time)

And we can make lots of leaflets to hand out or post through doors it could make a difference then those people could spread the word

  11. Global warming, according to the current theory, is caused by carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere trapping in the heat of the sun and warming up the earth. Most people, not you specifically, believe in this theory because they have little scientific knowledge or common sense.  First of all carbon dioxide isn't the most prominent greenhouse gas; water vapor is. Secondly, your comment about all the tree's dying makes no sense. If global warming is cause by carbon dioxide emissions then the plants should be fine. Plants breathe carbon dioxide, so if there is more carbon dioxide then there are more plants. I think you should do more research before you rant about things on the internet.

  12. We drive hybrids, and we planted alot of flowers around our house(flowers clean the air).We also bought a solar thing, and put it in our roof,so we don't have to use all the other factorty electricity. We go to the park once a week and clean trash that is around there.

  13. that;s scary. My dad is turning into a big "GREEN-FREAK". W ehave cut down our electricity use, he's making us pick up trash on the highways, ect.. I hated it, but now I know that, I AM GLAD! Thank you for explaining this to me.

  14. People should stop littering, and actually help the environment, but what can we do to let people know not to do this? Just look at the positive side of it, we're not going to die alone, but of course there are people who don't want to die. I feel like we can still can help, but just have to find a way, or do something about it. I mean really do something about it.

  15. Global Warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. We don't need to wait for governments to find a solution for this problem: each individual can bring an important help adopting a more responsible lifestyle: starting from little, everyday things. It's the only reasonable way to save our planet, before it is too late.

Here is a list of  simple things that i will personally do in order to fight against and reduce the Global Warming phenomenon: some of these ideas are at no cost, some other require a little effort or investment but can

Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)

CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb. This simple switch will save about 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

    Install a programmable thermostat

Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning. They can save you $100 a year on your energy bill.

Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer

Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to heating and cooling. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment.

Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner

Cleaning a dirty air filter can save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Choose energy efficient appliances when making new purchases

Look for the Energy Star label on new appliances to choose the most energy efficient products available.

Do not leave appliances on standby

Use the "on/off" function on the machine itself. A TV set that's switched on for 3 hours a day (the average time Europeans spend watching TV) and in standby mode during the remaining 21 hours uses about 40% of its energy in standby mode.

Wrap your water heater in an insulation blanket

You’ll save 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple action. You can save another 550 pounds per year by setting the thermostat no higher than 50°C.

    Move your fridge and freezer

Placing them next to the cooker or boiler consumes much more energy than if they were standing on their own. For example, if you put them in a hot cellar room where the room temperature is 30-35ºC, energy use is almost double and causes an extra 160kg of CO2 emissions for fridges per year and 320kg for freezers.

Defrost old fridges and freezers regularly

Even better is to replace them with newer models, which all have automatic defrost cycles and are generally up to two times more energy-efficient than their predecessors.

Don't let heat escape from your house over a long period

When airing your house, open the windows for only a few minutes. If you leave a small opening all day long, the energy needed to keep it warm inside during six cold months (10ºC or less outside temperature) would result in almost 1 ton of CO2 emissions.

Replace your old single-glazed windows with double-glazing

This requires a bit of upfront investment, but will halve the energy lost through windows and pay off in the long term. If you go for the best the market has to offer (wooden-framed double-glazed units with low-emission glass and filled with argon gas), you can even save more than 70% of the energy lost.

    Get a home energy audit

Many utilities offer free home energy audits to find where your home is poorly insulated or energy inefficient. You can save up to 30% off your energy bill and 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Energy Star can help you find an energy specialist.

    Cover your pots while cooking

Doing so can save a lot of the energy needed for preparing the dish. Even better are pressure cookers and steamers: they can save around 70%!

Use the washing machine or dishwasher only when they are full

If you need to use it when it is half full, then use the half-load or economy setting. There is also no need to set the temperatures high. Nowadays detergents are so efficient that they get your clothes and dishes clean at low temperatures.

Take a shower instead of a bath

A shower takes up to four times less energy than a bath. To maximise the energy saving, avoid power showers and use low-flow showerheads, which are cheap and provide the same comfort.

    Use less hot water

It takes a lot of energy to heat water. You can use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead (350 pounds of carbon dioxide saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold or warm water (500 pounds saved per year) instead of hot.

Use a clothesline instead of a dryer whenever possible

You can save 700 pounds of carbon dioxide when you air dry your clothes for 6 months out of the year.

    Insulate and weatherize your home

Properly insulating your walls and ceilings can save 25% of your home heating bill and 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Caulking and weather-stripping can save another 1,700 pounds per year. Energy Efficient has more information on how to better insulate your home.

Be sure you’re recycling at home

You can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide a year by recycling half of the waste your household generates.

    Recycle your organic waste

Around 3% of the greenhouse gas emissions through the methane is released by decomposing bio-degradable waste. By recycling organic waste or composting it if you have a garden, you can help eliminate this problem! Just make sure that you compost it properly, so it decomposes with sufficient oxygen, otherwise your compost will cause methane emissions and smell foul.

  16. You're against global warming?  Well, geeze, that's quite a statement there.  But what the heck are you talking about when you say the "earth's core is getting thinner and thinner"?  That makes absolutely no sense.  And how does litter contribute to global warming?  Putting my candy wrapper in the landfill or on the sidewalk will have no effect on the Earth's climate.

  17. Have you ever been to India? There is litter everywhere. Also China and India are the ones causing the most global warming. Canada's share of global warming, for example, is just something like 2%. It's not to say that we should stop reducing our carbon foot print. In fact, Canadian's are concerned, more than anyone, about the harm we are doing to the enviornment. And I guess we can lead the way for third world countries to realize the effect and do something about it.

Did you know that a cyclist leaves a bigger carbon footprint than a Hummer driving vegetarian. That's the result of producing meat. You can Google it.

  18. well I wouldnt complain about it on a daily basis - this problem has been around for quite a while.  There are probably 3-4 percent of the world who are actively trying to protect the ozone and eco-systems...so its chanllenging. Most of our trash is recycled as we use alot of renewable resources...and theres lots of money in trash.  It employs alot of people - so even though its ugly, it's profitable and can be recycled.  As far as the ozone layer?  Well, you'd have to stop over population, then new emissions systems for all the cars, then replace nuclear power plants with eco-friendly systems, and find a way to transport virtually all of the worlds commodities using means of transport that do not emit harmful fumes and gases into the environment.

Its a large process...and I serioulsy doubt choosing "paper over plastic" or "throwing out your bottle of hairspray" is gonna put a dent in this problem.  I think the world will eventually move to seperating itself from our natural environment...into artificial envronments.  We will eventually cut all ties with our natural environment, even the animals will live in premade/prefab structures.  Only my opinion!

Maybe get a few billion people to buy hybrid cars, (which are manfactured in buildings that dispurse harmful toxins into our atmosphere..daily). I envy your quest for a healthier planet, unfortunately, I think it will fall on billions of deaf ears. =(

  19. For daily basis I'm bringing my own plastic bag when i'm shopping sometimes, using energy efficient light, turning the light off everytime i leave the room, using public transportation most of the time, and bring my own plastic chopstick to japanese restaurant. ^^

  20. Do a bit of research and have some fun. You need to research both sides of the issue and not just listen to the people who you agree with.

Try "State of Fear" by Crichton. great book, and if it doesn't change your mind about global warming then you have just fallen for the environmentalist demagoguery. And you will have proven that you cannot think for yourself.

  21. i would recycle and get a moped

  22. There is NOTHING that anyone can do to change global warming.  Anthropogenic global warming is a scam.

International Socialists like Gore are creating a false hysteria in order to scare the masses to give up freedom and to submit to more government control, more “international” government control.  Wake up, America!  He who controls energy controls the world.

As Margaret Thatcher put it: global warming is proving to be “a marvelous excuse for international socialism.”

No doubt, despite his fear that the North Pole ice caps will be totally melted in five years, Gore and his chums all flew to Davos in their private jets.

Global warming is indeed real and has been documented with ice cores dating back tens of thousands of years.

What is NOT real is the quackery that humans caused (or can even affect) global warming.

The scare tactics being perpetrated upon us are only a money/power grab scheme by bottom-feeder politicians accompanied by their so-easily-led sheeple who take their prattle, even their movies, as hard science

    .

To find that my statement above is true, follow the money. See just who it is who will profit from the carbon offset, carbon tax, & etc.

Here is truth about global warming:

Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.

The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.

This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.

Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is

becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).

As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).

When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.

It's been happening for millions of years.

The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY.

As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.

    Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':

    Humans did not cause it.

    Humans cannot stop it.

  23. Yes you can recycle, turn off lights and and water that you're not using. You can also not litter and pick up litter that doesn't make it to the trash can.

Cigarette smokers make air pollution as well, so enabling them to stop will help the ecosystem.

but to tell you the truth, my science teacher said that global warming is going to happen whether we like it or not.

The cause of that is the sun.  Eventually the sun will burn up out ozone and we'll die. But I'd doubt that will happen in the 21st century.

I think many of us  and our great, great ,great....grandchildren will experience it but not us.

I remember i use to worry about it all the time too, until i found out i wasn't mostly responsible for it than the sun, so i stopped the obsessiveness.

This doesn't mean that people shouldn't do the things I've listed above, it just means that you shouldn't blame yourself for it.

  24. i am like u. i too am against global warming!

actually if trees r there in large qty, more absorption of CO2 & more release of oxygen. so thats y i plant trees. i sometimes recycle too!

i think littering should b fined n govt should take an action.
