For how long can a goalkeeper keep the ball in his hand inside the box?

  1. I'm not sure there is a time limit anymore. I think when the 'pass back' rule came into being, the time limit was abolished and it is left to the referee's discretion if he thinks the goalie is time-wasting. Smart refs will 'book' the offender and tell him he is adding on an extra minute.

    Unfortunately, smart referees are a dying breed these days!

  3. 6 seconds or else a freekick is given but its not enforced alot

  4. Supposed to be 6 seconds - or they get booked but thyey always hold it for longer

  5. FIFA rules state the time limit for a goalkeeper to be able to hold the ball in his hands is 6 seconds. Then he has to either put it down or kick it away or else it's a penalty.
