  1. Depends on your budget, these are my favourites:

    Expensive - The Witchery (just next to the Castle); Oloroso on George Street (rooftop with great views across the city); Restaurant Martin Wishart in Leith; (fitz)henry, 19 Shore Place, Leith;

    Medium - Tigerlily on George Street, great food and bar with nightclub downstairs and hotel upstairs (fantastic rooms); The Waterfront, 1c Dock Place, Leith; The Living Room, Bruntsfield Place.

    Reasonable - Cafe Royal (great food and drinks); Blue Bar (above Traverse Theatre just of Lothian Road; Bar Roma, 39a Queensferry Street; The Indian Cavalry Club, 3 Atholl Place.

    Fair to say that there are a lot of really good restaurants in Edinburgh and some great nightlife. Generally, George Street and Rose Street are a good bet for nice places.

    The link below will provide some fairly good info.

    The Golden Dragon, 21Castle Street

    The place is very old fashioned and traditional but the food is....swoon...

  11. A room in the town or a room in the west end are Scottish Bistros. I've been there a few times and the food is lovely.

    You can take your own wine too, and they have a set menu eg. 3 courses for £18 or 2 courses for £15.
