I want to buy my fiance a golf putter and driver for his birthday. Does any one have any brand recommendations for me? (I don't golf at all) I want to get decent clubs....not top of the line, but not c**p either of course. Also, can I buy them without him being present???? He is a lefty- don't know if that matters at all. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!! IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!! :)

  1. I would buy him at gift certificate at either ***** or Golf Galaxy( or any other golf store in the area) Decide what you want to spend and then let him pick out the club. Saves a lot of time.

  2. First, a brand is nothing but a name. Just as a Ford person may say a Chevy is c**p, the Chevy guy will feel the same about the Ford.  He will be happy with what club works best for him.

Golf clubs are like shoes, they should fit the person. Your fiance could be tall with long or short arms, short with long or short arms, or anywhere in between. He could have extra small or large hands. His swing speed could be very fast or very slow. You would be better off (rather he would) with you buying a gift certificate for a club fitting and the clubs.

I know I used the PGA super store out of Atlanta and if you purchase the clubs from them, the fitting is credited back to you so it is really not a cost issue. Maybe other golf shops have the same deal. The main concern with the putter would be its length, weight and his style preference.  As for the driver, the club fitting would not only make sure he got the correct length for his height and arm length, but also the correct shaft flex for his swing speed and also the correct number of tape wraps for proper grip size.

  3. For a putter, get him an Odysee.  They are middle of the road.  Drivers, thats hard to give recomendations.  Brand. style, etc. depends on how good (or like me, how bad) you are, and feel meens alot.  Make sure if you get hime something that you get if from a place that allows returns.

  4. Golfsmith.com has a variety of prices and styles to fit your budget.  And golf equipment is typically like most anything else, brand names usually cost more for a reason, they are typically better quality.

  5. try Calloway or Wilson

  6. Shop a garage sale.

  7. Ping G5 driver- Good brand, Top of the line, cost is about $125

Odessey White Hot #7- good putter, at the top, and $100- $399

  8. Calloway.com

they have new and used equipment for sale.  If I remember correctly, they have an question and answer area on their website also.

    hope this helps.
