Golf in Montana...USA?

Question

I noticed in several posts in the golf section, that some were saying, regarding weather conditions, that Montana was pretty hard going, because of the poor climate

My question is, why is the weather so bad in that part of the USA, is there a particular reason for it?

If so i'd like to know please, thanks in advance.

It is in the northern part of the US and it is always colder in the north. The NE side of the US is colder than the NW side.
