Question:

Golfing in bad weather?

Does anybody have any good golf tips for golfing in bad weather? Today was cold and it rained on and off all day. Even with the umbrellas we got rather wet and it was miserable all day. It was bad enough that we had the whole course to ourselves. We should have left also, but I really do like to play. I just didn't have a very good round and played a lot worse than usual, so I'm looking for tips to playing in these conditions.

  1. Being from Michigan, I know what you mean. I was supposed to play a golf match for my high school today, but it got rained out. I don't like playing in the rain unless it sprinkles, but be prepared!

  2. put on a rain suit or not play

  3. don't play then

  4. Playing in the driving range is better under bad weather condition. There might be some lightening and it would get worse is you got struck.

  5. Of course you know they make clothes for cold and rainy weather.  The winter gloves are really nice, they keep your hands warm and loose.  Remember to check the wind direction often.  Also know that when the greens are damp or wet you are not going to get much role so hit it at the pin on every shot.  You will need to hit your putts harder with less break in these conditions as well.  Other than sitting at the bar until the weather breaks, I cant give you any more advise.

  6. Bag hood to keep the clubs dry, rain suit, umbrella, extra gloves (hang'em inside the open umbrella to dry), and extra towels. Aim at the pins, and don't hit F-A-T.

  7. Bad weather golf is tough.  Don't worry so much about your score in bad weather.  The greens are inconsistant so putting is tough.  If the weather is bad, just take it for what it is... having fun.

Get a nice Goretex jacket to keep dry and enjoy yourself.

  8. Footjoy makes everything you need to play in cold and wet weather.  Their rain suits are second to none and they have wonderful gloves both for the cold, wet weather, and both.  Aside from a new bad weather wardrobe, I would carry plenty of towels, several extra gloves, and an extra pair of socks never hurts.  If you're walking, many golf stores have small umbrellas with flexible necks that are made specifically to cover clubs.
