  1. Do you want a DVD player with it? If so, get this one: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stor...

If you already have a DVD player, and don't need another one, look at these: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stor...

  2. I'm afraid I must disagree with FSX.  These systems are inexpensive, but you really cannot hook much to them. They are pretty much DVD playback systems.

You want a system with a big, boxy receiver with LOTS of spare digital inputs. (You send your video straight to the TV but you want 3 empty inputs for DVD, HD Cable or sat box and a game system).

We get 3 or more posts per week here by people who bought these systems, but later learn the compromises they have.

Hit Craigslist. You can probably find a used system for $300 that is superior to most of these Sony, Philips, Samsung things.

Make sure the receiver was sold stand-alone and that the subwoofer is self powered.

Otherwise - wait and build up some money. Decent new systems are about $500.
